A Piece of Italy
in the Kingdom of Tonga
Warmest greetings and welcome. We are a small family place, nothing fancy, but everything done with care. Our promise has always been simple: good food, a comfortable bed, and hopefully a smile when you leave.
Little Italy began in 1996 in a traditional Tongan fale, just 700 metres from where we stand today, one of the earliest Italian restaurants in Nukualofa, serving pizza and pasta with a warmth that felt just like home. From the very beginning, our purpose was simple: to bring families together around good food. There was even a small playground out front for the children, while parents enjoyed their meal.
In 2008 we relocated to our current home on Vuna Road, a three-floor building built from the ground up, with arches and Italian character to bring that feeling of Italy right here to the Pacific. With 22 hotel rooms on the first and second floors and the restaurant on the ground floor, right on the waterfront. We were deeply honoured to have His Majesty the late King George Tupou V open our premises, who brought some of his VIP guests as part of the celebrations for his coronation. It was a moment we will always treasure.
Thirty years on, the same cuisine that brought families together in that little Tongan fale is still being served today. The faces may change, but the warmth around the table never does. You may even spot humpback whales from your balcony during whale season!

We were deeply humbled and honoured when His Majesty the late King George Tupou V graciously opened our current premises in 2008, before coronation celebrations. The hotel had the privilege of hosting some of his distinguished guests for this historic occasion. It is a memory we hold close to our hearts and will forever cherish.

The story of Little Italy began in 1996 in a traditional Tongan fale (house), one of the earliest Italian restaurants in Nukualofa, serving pizza and pasta with a warmth that felt just like home. As our restaurant grew, we knew it was time to expand. We were truly blessed to find the perfect location just 350 metres away, and in 2007 we built our current three-floor building from the ground up, with arches and Italian character to bring the spirit of Italy to this corner of the Pacific.
We were deeply humbled and honoured when His Majesty the late King George Tupou V graciously inaugurated Little Italy Hotel & Restaurant in 2008, just a few days before his Coronation. Some of his distinguished guests in attendance for the Coronation were the first to grace Little Italy with their stay, an honour we hold close to our hearts to this day.
Thirty years on, the same cuisine that first brought people together in that little Tongan fale is still lovingly served today. We are humbled by the support we have received over the years, and we hope with all our hearts that this journey will continue for many more decades to come.
